Moncton’s NB Day celebrates Canada 150

MONCTON – Preparations are well underway for the fun-filled New Brunswick Day event scheduled to be held on Monday, August 7 at Moncton’s Riverfront Park and Resurgo Place. The all-day event, created as a collaboration between the City of Moncton, Music/Musique NB (MNB), Resurgo Place and the Atlantic Ballet-Theatre of Canada’s Centre for Arts and Education, will celebrate the diverse musical makeup of New Brunswick and provide family-friendly activities.

The ‘NB Celebrates Canada 150’ Stage, located at Riverfront Park, will come alive at 6 pm and will feature all-Canadian and 100% New Brunswick talent. The show will start with NB’s favourite fiddlers, Ivan & Vivian Hicks, accompanied by the Sussex Avenue Fiddlers. Emerging artist Cameron Molloy, followed by Accros de la chanson participants Sommes 4 will then showcase their talent to the crowd. Spoutnique, a mysterious alt-disco group from Edmundston will deliver an energetic set that is bound to get people dancing. Closing off the evening, the Gary Sappier Blues Band will perform their eclectic style of Tobique Blues, offering a snapshot of home.

Earlier in the day, beginning at 10 am, activities will begin at Resurgo Place -- home of the Moncton Museum and Transportation Discovery Centre. Kids of all ages will be able to help dismantle and examine the intricate mechanisms of an upright piano and other musical intruments, in a Constructive Destruction Lab, proving that science and music DO go together! Faculty from the Atlantic Ballet-Theatre of Canada’s Centre for Arts and Education will also provide fun and exciting animation, giving participants a chance to interact with some of the characters from The Junglebook, also at Resurgo Place beginning at 10 am.

“People are often surprised to learn the diversity of music being created, right here in New Brunswick,” says Jean Surette, Executive Director of MNB. “We wanted to create a line-up reflective of that genre medley and give Monctonians a chance to discover new artists. And who knows? Maybe next year, we’ll have a jazz / classical / doom metal concert!”

“The City of Moncton is thrilled to partner with Music New Brunswick for New Brunswick Day festivities, with a special nod to our country’s 150th! We invite everyone to take in the celebrations and enjoy Resurgo Place’s family-friendly program featuring music-themed activities, as well as Junglebook-themed animation by the Atlantic Ballet-Theatre of Canada’s Centre for Arts and Education to kick things off, and a free music concert featuring fantastic New Brunswick artists in the evening!”, says Mayor Dawn Arnold.
