Enchanting the classic songbook, with elegance, beauty and flair, Karine Basque is a unique vocal talent capable of weaving a beautiful musical journey of jazz standards. With grace and style, Karine can equally deliver on beautiful nuanced performances in both English and French. Being relatively new to live performance has worked in Karine's favor, as she brings an unmistakable ''joie de vivre'' to the material and her performances are genuine and a lot of fun as a result.
Even in her profession as a registered nurse, music has found ways to influence her day to day, including one occasion where Karine sang the Acadian love song Évangéline, to a gentleman in palliative care because that was his favorite song. She even recorded him a CD with the song that he listened to until he took his last breath. She used music for pain management during painful procedures, she used it to help dementia patients, always being in awe in front of their capacity to remember the lyrics of their favorites songs even if they could no longer have a normal conversation... To put a finer point on it, Karine not only loves to sing, it is who she is, and that joy and passion effortlessly spills from the stage during every performance.
As a performer, Karine has sharpened her skills thanks to a residency type of engagement at The Southside Shake/Hilton Fredericton, and the 2023 December program of Christmas carols during Fredericton tree lighting ceremony, had the city talking about the talents of this exciting chanteuse. This year has also seen Karine and her band graduate to festival sized stages as well, with a breakout debut at the 2024 FestiVin in Caraquet.
Depending on the occasion, Karine's backing band can be as intimate as a three-piece, perfect for smaller speakeasy feel, to a full fledged five-piece capable of entertaining larger rooms and cabarets. If light jazz is what your event calls for, Karine can fit any bill.
