Music•Musique NB celebrated a year in music during its 8th annual Prix MNB Awards Show, at the Tide & Boar in Moncton. The event also kicked off Festival (506), which takes place in Moncton through October 15. All in all, some 27 awards were handed out to New Brunswick artists and music industry professionals.
Notable among these recipients were The Divorcees (for From Labour to Refreshment), winner of the coveted Album of the Year Award, and emerging Miramichi artist Dillon Ryan, who was handed the Fans' Choice Award, his first ever Prix MNB Award. During the evening, Saint John duo Tomato Tomato took home two statuettes, for Group Recording of the Year and SOCAN Song of the Year.
The Directors’ Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to industry veteran Yolande Bourgeois. With over 30 years in the New Brunswick musical scene, Yolande Bourgeois has worked with many cultural organisations, including the Francofête en Acadie, the Acadian World Conference, the Accros de la chanson and the provincial Council of cultural societies, to name a few. Founding member of the Music•Musique NB Board of Directors, Yolande also headed the Arts Development Branch for the province of New Brunswick.
"The MNB Awards Show is a great way for us to kick off Festival (506)," says Jean Surette, MNB Executive Director. "It feels like a big family reunion and gives us a chance to acknowledge the great music being created, produced and played across New Brunswick all year round," concludes Surette.
