Music•Musique NB (MNB) Board of Directors is proud to present the fourth annual Directors’ Lifetime Achievement Award to Matilda Murdoch.

Born in 1920 in Loggieville, Matilda Murdoch started playing the fiddle when she was 9 years old. Throughout her long and varied career, this 'Queen of the Down East Fiddle' has made multiple appearances on Don Messer’s Jubilee. Well-known in fiddling circles, Matilda Murdoch is a prolific composer, with over 200 songs in her catalogue, several of which were recorded by Messer himself.

"I am excited to see MNB acknowledge Matilda's lifetime musical contributions to the fabric of Miramichi and beyond," says Paddy Quinn, member of Festival (506)'s local engagement committee. "She is a real treasure and always gets toes tapping when she plays Loggieville Two Step. We are delighted that Matilda will be included in the biggest music weekend Miramichi will host."

Matilda Murdoch has received many honours, including the ECMA Stompin' Tom Award (2002), the Order of New Brunswick (2004) and the Order of Canada (2010), and was inducted in the New Brunswick Country Music Hall of Fame and the North American Fiddlers Hall of Fame. "Matilda Murdoch joins the rank of Marc Chouinard, Eric’s Trip & Ken Tobias, previous recipients of the MNB Board of Directors Award," says Richard Hornsby, Chair of the Board. "We are happy to recognize her for her work, dedication and significant impact on the NB music industry and artists."

The Directors’ Lifetime Achievement Award will be given during the Prix MNB Awards evening, taking place Thursday, October 13, at Miramichi's Carrefour communautaire Beausoleil. The event marks the start of Festival (506), MNB's annual event, celebrating its tenth year, October 13 to 16, in the River City.
