Music•Musique NB celebrated a year in music during its 9th annual Prix MNB Awards Show, at the Centre culturel in Caraquet. The event kicks off Festival (506), which takes place in Caraquet through October 28. All in all, some 31 awards were handed out to New Brunswick artists and music industry professionals.
Fredericton group The Hypochondriacs emerged as the biggest winner of the evening, going home with four statuettes, including Album of the Year and SOCAN Song of the Year. Notable among the other recipients were Chloé Breault (for Enregistrement de l'année) and Brittany McQuinn, who was handed the Solo Recording and Pop Artist Awards. For the first time ever, there was a tie in the results, with both Eva George and Sara Liptay rewarded with the title of Educator of the Year.
"The MNB Awards Show gives us a chance to acknowledge the artists and professionals who work in the music industry all year round," says Jean Surette, MNB Executive Director. "We celebrate the great music created right here in New Brunswick and we get the Festival (506) ball rolling," concludes Surette.
