Roots
Rôle:
Genre(s):

2014 ECMA nominee Carolyn Holyoke has a reputation for making things happen. A successful career in music education involved school band and choral programs along with classroom teaching. Since her transition from music teacher to performer she has thrived on concurrent projects, often in the throes of the latest arrangement or the next show.

What began as a strong interest in the music of Scottish and Irish bands, eventually led her to musicians who were involved in the folk/roots scene. Opportunities arose over the years to perform overseas and closer to home at events such as ECMA and Music New Brunswick showcases, Contact East, Celtic Colours, Stan Rogers Folk Festival, the Nova Scotia International Tattoo and the All-Ireland Fleadh Cheoil.

Having recorded with other artists, Carolyn stepped out and produced her own CD “Collage” in 2013. This project combined her love of writing, arranging and collaborating with friends and colleagues from Miramichi, New Brunswick to Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. Following a 2014 ECMA nomination in the Roots/Traditional Solo Recording category, Carolyn earned three 2014 Music New Brunswick nominations culminating in Collaborative Musician of the Year Award.

Since then music has continued to be a driving force in Carolyn’s life and in particular, the melodies, harmonies and rhythms of the Celtic genre. She currently collaborates with musicians from both Fredericton and Saint John, playing both piano and accordion.
