Hampton-born, Saint John-based artist Drake Tobias has been sharpening his songwriting and live performance skills in earnest for three years. After finishing second in the 2019 iteration of Saint John Idol, Drake shifted his focus from performing covers to engaging more thoroughly with his own craft.
Originally inspired to pursue music by his cousin, Kenny Tobias, Drake endeavours to honour the long musical history of Canada’s maritime provinces in his songwriting and generally incorporates blues progressions into his music.
To date, Drake Tobias has played multiple shows at O’Leary’s Pub, hosted an Open Mic at the Public House, and opened for Ethan Ash, James Mullinger, and Brent Mason. Onstage, Drake hones in on his natural and infectious ability to enthusiastically engage showgoers.
His band, Tobias & the Talls Cans, is releasing their first EP in June of this year. The lead single, Leave Me Alone, will be made available on March 26th.
Drake’s energetic stage presence is matched by a keen desire to strengthen his musicianship and deepen his deftness as a songwriter. He’s eager to make his mark as an artist in the province of New Brunswick.
